Wet wet wet!

Wet wet wet!

I’ve been for a run.  3.16 miles, 28:47 in the pouring rain.  Slow and sopping wet but it was glorious!  Considering that this is the same route that took me to my best of 5k in 24:40 my time really was slow. As I stepped out of the front door it was raining, that’d normally put me off starting until the rain settles down a bit but not tonight.  Tonight, unlike most other nights, I didn’t mind the rain, I…

Get a treadmill

Get a treadmill

So I was sat talking with a friend who, when they heard that I hadn’t ran for a couple of weeks, jibed ‘Get a treadmill’.  Whilst this is obviously something that would be very expensive and space-consuming, it really wouldn’t give me the same enjoyment anyway.  Running, for me, is a release.  A release from the stresses of the day, from working, from worries and pretty much anything else.  Okay, so what stresses does a 20-year-old have to overcome?  I…

Garmin Forerunner 310xt – A review

Garmin Forerunner 310xt – A review

Introducing the Garmin Forerunner 310xt Firstly, you probably want to know why an average runner who only runs a couple of times a week, wants something as bulky and expensive as a Garmin Forerunner 310xt.  If you have read any of my previous posts you will know that I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to analysing data; the more data the better!  I recently spent about two months training to run a sub-25 minute 5k, my previous…

When technology fails…

When technology fails…

Thomas Edison once said  ‘Just because something doesn’t do what you planned it to do doesn’t mean it’s useless.’, the same could be said of my Garmin on Saturday. Initially I headed out of the door intending to do a quick 5-mile run in between other commitments, in reality, I doubled that distance.  The ‘problem’ with my run wasn’t actually in the run itself and, after a lot of thought and consideration, wasn’t really a problem at all, just a…

Through the fog

Through the fog

Through The Fog   Visibility for Tuesday’s run was fine, as fine as it could be for an Autumnal evening anyway.  The ‘fog’ came from the way my head and legs felt.  Although I later discovered that I had ran 3.56 miles (clocked on my Garmin) at an average pace of 9:06 minutes-per-mile, at no point during the run did I feel comfortable. It’s hard to describe exactly how I was feeling but I described it afterward as ‘like running…

A peek at posts to come…

A peek at posts to come…

Whilst this post isn’t a content post in itself, I hope to give you, my readers an idea of the topics I hope to cover in posts to come.   Running doesn’t require much equipment, a part of the appeal you may argue.  The essential item that it does require though, a decent pair of running shoes, requires a wise choice.  As such I will be reviewing a pair of shoes that I am currently using, the Asics Gel Nimbus 14s,…

Out and back

Out and back

[polldaddy poll=8255689] The Out and Back Challenge Tonight’s run was simple.  22 minutes out, 22 minutes back, 1 straight road.  On the outward leg, we ascended the hill out of the city centre and into Manchester’s suburbs.  I aimed to maintain a consistent pace in order to finish in 44 minutes. Achieving the right pace and effort was a challenge.  Go too hard on the outbound leg and I’d be out of puff coming back; run with too little effort and…

New distance, new goal

New distance, new goal

[polldaddy poll=8251976]We all have them, from ourselves, from others, from algorithms on training websites but I never have found them at all useful.  Of course, predicting your own time is part and parcel of a runner’s race plan but for me personally, at least, I don’t like predictions. In the long term, who could guess how much your 5k time will fall orwhat will happen on your first half marathon so that you run a time you thought nigh on impossible.   Before…

When controlled falling goes wrong…

When controlled falling goes wrong…

As you can probably tell by the title of this piece, my last run wasn’t exactly a success. I started off well enough, planning to do anywhere between 3 and 5 miles to bed-in my new Asics Gel Nimbus 14s.  Recently I’ve been in good form when out on the road, my 5k time has tumbled to 24.40, a full minute quicker than my previous 5k personal best, so it wasn’t a surprise when I fell into a comfortable rhythm….

Why I Run…

Why I Run…

The Reason Why I Run When I started this blog in 2014, I had recently completed the Blackpool Half Marathon. It was, then, my greatest achievement. Whilst I have now taken on more challenging races and distances, the reason why I run has largely stayed the same. My first piece was going to focus on my proudest running achievement at Blackpool Half Marathon.  I’ve come to realise, however, that it’s slightly pointless recounting running memories without establishing some sort of…
