A guide to the best pre-run breakfast you can eat!

A guide to the best pre-run breakfast you can eat!

My Favourite Pre-Run Breakfast:  Why Scrambled Eggs are my safe bet If I plan to go out for a long run I generally have scrambled eggs and some toast for breakfast, simple as that.  Porridge is really heavy and tends to cause stomach trouble if I try and run any great distance.  Cereal isn’t filling enough to keep my hunger at bay whilst out on the run.  So after a bit of experimenting I decided that 2 scrambled eggs and…

Definitely Autumn!

Definitely Autumn!

It’s cold.  The clocks have gone back.  The nights are getting horribly dark and I’m grumpy.  Coincidence?  Not a bit of it. But a Thursday night Badminton session at Castle Leisure Centre and a short, sleepy but nonetheless enjoyable 2.6 miles this afternoon have helped to lift the mood. It’s reading week so I’m not at university, I’m sat at home, typing this from the dining room table on my laptop.  The last few weeks have been really busy, the assignments…

Like a yoyo…

Like a yoyo…

So I had a run in the rain which felt amazing followed by a run, two days later, that felt really rather sluggish and heavy legged followed by a day of over-eating at a wedding on Saturday and Sunday evening at work.  And as a result of all that, no time for running.  It’s been a fantastic weekend, don’t get me wrong.  But.  And it’s a big but, it’s not helping me build any form up.  Get the feeling that…

Wet wet wet!

Wet wet wet!

I’ve been for a run.  3.16 miles, 28:47 in the pouring rain.  Slow and sopping wet but it was glorious!  Considering that this is the same route that took me to my best of 5k in 24:40 my time really was slow. As I stepped out of the front door it was raining, that’d normally put me off starting until the rain settles down a bit but not tonight.  Tonight, unlike most other nights, I didn’t mind the rain, I…

Get a treadmill

Get a treadmill

So I was sat talking with a friend who, when they heard that I hadn’t ran for a couple of weeks, jibed ‘Get a treadmill’.  Whilst this is obviously something that would be very expensive and space-consuming, it really wouldn’t give me the same enjoyment anyway.  Running, for me, is a release.  A release from the stresses of the day, from working, from worries and pretty much anything else.  Okay, so what stresses does a 20-year-old have to overcome?  I…

Walking for Work

Walking for Work

So I still haven’t been out for a run, but it isn’t all bad news and I’m not TOO grumpy.  I’ve got a part time job and with the job comes walking, lots of walking, especially during a busy shift.  A couple of times I’ve wondered to myself how many miles I cover on a shift.  Of course, I can’t use a Garmin in a huge indoor establishment but I will, when I remember, take a pedometer.  I keep telling…

Sniffle Sniffle Cough Cough

Sniffle Sniffle Cough Cough

So this last week I’ve been full of a cold and by now I’m desperate, absolutely desperate to go for a run, if only for a bit of fresh air and FREEDOM!  I’m in my 3rd year at university which means that the merde has hit the ventilateur and I have to sit about and read a lot of articles whilst thinking of how to analyse them *yawn*.  In fairness, some of the stuff I’m reading is vaguely interesting, like how a child…
